MEMORANDO FOR RECORD
TO: Key Operation Police officer of Gumdrop Northern
BY: Gabriel Period
SUBJECT: Ethical Analysis of Gumdrop Northern
The purpose of this memorandum should be to identify, discuss and propose solutions to the ethical issues that were available at the conclusion in the ethics examine. My ethics committee and myself carried out this integrity audit via 7 Feb . to dua puluh enam February 2013. At the conclusion on this audit, the next ethical concerns were recognized: ignorance to international law and treaties by exporting manufactured landmines to Afghanistan and Serbia; use of substandard materials used to construct body system armor; disclosing information in the military that would prevent traumas; and the created plan to send notices beneath the Worker Modification and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, and severing connections to the group bargaining contract which ended in 100+ personnel out of work. Despite the several problems that have been determined, we are optimistic that we can easily implement solutions that can correct these incidents and prevent foreseeable future issues by happening.
Due to the degree of the problems that were identified it is essential to get a basic knowledge of business in ethics. Values can be recognized differently among people because it features several nuances. According to Fraedrich, Ferrell and Ferrell, The American Heritage Book defines values as, " The study of the typical nature of morals associated with specific meaning choices, meaning philosophy; plus the rules or perhaps standards regulating the perform of the members of a profession. ” (p. 7). This is a good starting point to help us further understand the need for ethical conformity. For the purpose of this memorandum, the definition that will be employed is the guidelines, values, and standards that businesses should adhere to, to assure it is operating within moral standards. Furthermore, studying ethics in business is very important because ethical misconduct is actually a considerable matter in business throughout the world. My values committee and i also have referenced this explanation and statement through the duration of our taxation, and is the inspiration of our studies. Now that we have discussed the definition and need for ethics running a business, we will discuss each ethical concern that was discovered in Gumdrop Northern's functions. After each ethical issue has been addressed, we will discuss potential solutions and our reasoning for the betterment in the short and long-term desired goals.
Ethical Concern #1: Ignorance to Intercontinental Law and Treaties
While previously mentioned, Gumdrop Northern violated international rules and treaties by transferring manufactured landmines to Afghanistan and Iran. This is a really dynamic concern because there is conflict with client positions. This disputes with your father or mother company, the Department of Defense mainly because you really are a long-term army contractor that manufactures munitions, body battle suits and armored vehicles pertaining to the United States armed forces. The U. S. armed forces is currently fighting in a decade-long war in the centre East, and landmines have already been common numerous fatalities because the beginning of the battle. Improvised forceful devices (IEDs) have continued to be the number one great of United States armed forces in Afghanistan, and 60 percent of all combat-related deaths in 2011 alone were caused by IEDs (Mora, 2011). IEDs are definitely the most common approach used by insurgent groups and rebels who also wage nontraditional warfare, and they are designed to destroy or cause serious physical harm. The conflict of interest that my panel and I are most focused on is the actuality that you are likely to supply successful body shield to the cabale forces to protect them coming from explosive blasts, but you can also be supplying the enemy with the essential equipment that cause these above mentioned explosive blasts.
